The Power of Sabbath
This Sunday, I am excited to return to the pulpit of St. Barnabas and to celebrate All Saints Communion with you. The time away was refreshing in many ways. Tina and I spent the first four days in San Antonio, then returned to get her ready to go back to work at her schools, and then the highlight was a 6-day trip to Northern Arizona (Grand Canyon, Sedona, Lake Powell, etc). I am finishing with a short retreat at Lake Whitney. It was good to let go of some accumulated “stuff,” hear the voice of God again and just do some genuine Sabbath rest. Special thanks to the congregation, the leadership of our SPRC, and the fabulous pastoral team that has done extra work while I have been gone.
Now we begin our Stewardship Campaign for this year. Our theme is “All You Can.” It comes from John Wesley’s sermon on “The Use of Money,” where he preached that we should “gain all we can, save all we can, and give all we can.” This series of sermons and services is about more than what we give to the church. It’s about maximizing our God-given gifts and talents, about storing up the things that are most important, and about join God in the joy of giving ourselves away. We will celebrate Commitment Sunday on November 22nd, but you will want to be present each Sunday for what will be a meaningful and memorable time at St. Barnabas Church.
I can’t wait to see you on this Sunday and be alongside you in ministry.
Sincerely in Christ,
Will
