I love the excitement of new beginnings. The fall semester had always been a time when I offered myself and the coming school year’s opportunities to God. Even though I am no longer in school, I still like the Fall, it’s a time when I pray for God’s help and commit myself to be the very best I can for Him.
A fresh start is exciting. Teachers and staff are excited as it is the culmination of a hectic, anxious time of preparation for the avalanche of students that will soon be in their care. Students are excited about new classes, activities, and the chance to meet new teachers and friends. It is excitement tinged with the fear of the unknown. No one knows what the school year will hold – wins, losses, joys and hurts. One thing we can choose to control is our perspective and attitude. Starting the year out with a positive, Christ following outlook is key.
This Sunday we will honor those who serve in Public/Private Schools, Sunday school, Youth sponsors, Small Group leaders, and all others who facilitate student education. At this time we also invite students and their families to dedicate themselves to be God’s best in this school year. Cathy Smith will lead us in “Blessing the Backpacks,” so bring those backpacks with you to church this Sunday.
I invite the entire St. Barnabas family of faith to be present Sunday in solidarity with our teachers, students and families. Come to a celebration of a new school year, a new beginning, this Sunday,
August 23.
Matthew 11:29
Sincerely in Christ,
