We, as the pastors and worship planning team, are excited to be bringing Jesus Unfiltered as our next preaching series at St. Barnabas, beginning September 13th. The Jesus often pictured and preached can actually be a Jesus we have created for our own comfort – one tamed and trivialized over time – one that would never have been crucified and one that would never have changed the world. So why did Jesus say what he said and do what he did? And what might that mean for you and me today? Here are the titles and scripture lessons for this powerful and provocative series.
September 13 “You Are Who Your Friends Are…or Are You?” Matthew 9:9-13, Mark 7:24-35
September 20 “It’s All About the Kingdom, Dummy – Well, What’s the Kingdom?” Matthew 10:5-8, Mark 4:10-12, Luke 17:20-24, Acts 1:1-3
September 27 “Taking Jesus Seriously but not Literally” Matthew 5:38-42, 10:34-39
October 4 “Jesus Freakonomics” Luke 12-13-21
October 11 “You Can Do Better Than This” John 8:1-11
October 18 “Jesus in the Shark Tank” Luke 18:18-30
Included in this series is a Monday/Wednesday/Friday on-line Bible Study beginning Wednesday, September 9th, available from our church website (www.sbumc.org) or FACEBOOK page. Should you want it by e-mail, let the church office know. Each study session will include a short reflection from the life and teachings of Jesus followed by some questions for your reflection and even possible feedback.
Make plans now to learn and get reacquainted with the amazing, disturbing and transforming Christ! What an opportunity awaits all of us. Why not invite someone you know and love to come with you to these great worship services.
Sincerely in Christ,
Will
